Parking and using a car in London

London is a crowded city and often you may find problems going from one place to another. Luckily the public transport infrastructure is highly developed and you will be able to use buses, cabs or the subway. Of course it might be a problem if you have to change the transport in order to reach your destination, especially if your goal is your workplace and you have to use the transport daily. In this case the best you can do is to buy/hire a car. Well…to tell you the truth the opinions about driving a car in London can be quite controversial. For me personally, the car is the best means of transport and I would never change it. But if you ask other people they would tell you that they prefer the services of public transport. Anyway, like every other means of transport driving a car in London has its positive and negative features. I’ll be honest with you and share you my personal experience.

First let me start with the disadvantages. If you have to go to your work and you start working early in the morning you will witnessing huge traffic jams daily. Especially the time from 7AM to 9AM. This is why you might want to consider your route to your job. The next thing which I hate mostly is the parking. Parking in London can be described as impossible, especially if you have to do something important near the city center. There are barely any free places, and most of the streets are restricted for parking. You might lose a few hours wandering where to stop your car. If you finally find a spot someone may take it in front of you because you are not the only one who is looking for a place to park. By the way I can’t give you feedback about the prices of car renting because I have a personal vehicle but I’m sure there is information on internet and if you search closely you will find what you need.

The positive features of having a vehicle in London are more in my opinion. You can go anytime anywhere without worrying how you are going to get back home, especially if it’s late. The comfort and safety of car can’t be compared to any other means of transport. Plus if you live in a decent neighborhood you won’t have any problems with the parking. This is why when I was moving in Edinburgh I was looking for apartment in Edinburgh who are located in a quiet and nice area of the city. I had two more job offers in other European countries and I was looking for apartments in Venice as well as apartment in Florence but after I compared the amenities and prices I decided that London is the best choice I can make and this is why I’m currently living there. My personal recommendation is not to pay too much attention to the negative features and rent/buy a car of your own.
